  Patches

    What is Patches?
screenshot1

Patches is a simple board game. Take the idea of the game "Othello" and put it on a hexagonal (six-sided) board.

You can play with two or three players. Also, if you're a fan of the original Othello, you can choose to play on an old style square board.

    What Does It Work On?

This game is based on OpenGL technology. Most any machine with this will be able to play this game.

Right now the Mac OS X and Windows versions are available. Want to see a new version in this list? Email me and let me know.

    What Does it Cost?

Patches is free. However, I am very interested in finding out how people feel about it. If you like it, or if you don't, please drop me an email.

    Why Did I Write This?

The original Patches was an idea I'd had some time ago that I wanted to do, just to refresh my game-making skills. I've been doing a lot of Web development lately and I don't get much chance to work on 3D stuff.

The Mac OS X version includes a pure Cocoa UI that I used as training for this new way of coding on the Macintosh. I have two things to say about this experience: a) Apple's documentation is sorely lacking; b) once you figure it out, it's the best thing since sliced bread. Using the basics is easy, and creating custom stuff is too, it's a very good balance between the two.

    What's the Future Plans?
  • Networking. This was originaly designed to be a networkable game. Simply haven't completed it yet.
  • Smarter computer opponents. Right now it's quite easy to win.
